We
are excited to be able
to offer a special edition
of the Pelikan M400 in
tortoise. The provenance
of these pens is somewhat
mysterious. As far as
we can gather, the parent
company of the Kaufhof
department store comissioned
a very limited run of
these special pens for
the Berlin store's 125th
anniversary. They were
sold mainly in the Berlin
Kaufhof, with smaller
numbers in affilated
stores elsewhere in Germany
and perhaps also in Switzerland.
It is believed that no
more than 1,000 sets
were ever produced, making
these M400s a strictly
limited production.
What is notable about
them is the trim, which
is virtually
identical to the M800
model. So this is
the little brother (or
sister) to those unobtainable
models. For those who
have been seeking a tortoise
M800, this set (fountain
pen and ballpoint) with
its special trim may
be as close as you are
going to get. We have
only a large handful
of sets and I am not
at all sure I can get
more. These are no longer
being made.
The fountain pens have
lovely two toned 14K
Medium nibs.
This means that they
are highly customizeable
by your favorite nibmeister,
and are, of course, swappable
with any nib from the
M100 series through the
M600s.
Additional Information:
According to my source
for these pens, and he
is someone both close
to the factory and someone
I trust, there were approximately
725 of these sets made.
All have now been sold
and there will, apparently,
be no more tortoise 400
sets made in the future
as the material is no
longer available. |
